5/29/2023 0 Comments Olli chico“A year ago, I hosted more than a dozen classes a term, which means I got the chance to ‘take classes.’ This fall, I will be actively hosting four classes, thanks to the many volunteers who are not assisting with Zoom support. They stimulate my brain and help me learn,” she said. I particularly enjoy challenging brainy classes. She also took a class on the history of illustration and a class on the history of Korean art. Harper took a class on Greek philosophy and one on Ghandi. “It’s very relaxed, the students are very interested and pay attention and they are quite eager to learn,” Harper said. In spring she will teach Zen Buddhism again. Harper went to school in Los Angeles but decided to retire in Chico.įor the fall semester she is only teaching the art of Islam. She also teaches Islamic art and a class on early India. She teaches art history and Archaeology of Asia. Katherine Harper is an OLLI instructor and a sometimes student. I go hiking with people I met in hiking classes, and I’ve traveled with people I met in OLLI,” Race said. I love the social interaction with like minded people,” Race said. The instructors share things they are passionate about and make it so interesting. It’s a community of older adults who are passionate about lifelong learning. When I first retired 9 years ago, I had things I wanted to do, such as volunteering and projects and family and travel, and I found that OLLI dovetails in with those things. Since the Zoom classes are recorded, I can watch them later if I miss the class,” Race said. “There are a couple classes I like to take not offered on Zoom, so I take those in person. Race is also taking a class centered around landfills in which students will take a tour of landfills. Race also plans to take Myths and Legends and Tales of the Celts, a Claude Monet observation class and history classes. The teachers make it so interesting,” Race said. “There’s such a wide variety of classes I love, classes where they sound interesting, but what you can’t really do when going to college is take something just for interest.
